Rinjani Climb

Our group from Norway has arrived. Welcome Jarle Mundal, Christian Sando, Ståle Ravem, Reidun Walaunet Ravem, Line Skjelbred, Ingvild Marie Settemsdal, Thomas Pfandt and Hilde Gunn Bjelde. They are joined by our expedition leaders Felix Berg and Magdalena Wilczek.

Given the very tense political situation in West Papua at the moment, our group decided to acclimatize on Gunung Rinjani (Picture), an active volcano on the island of Lombok (3726m).🌋 🌄 😁

A very nice hike up the somewhat dusty and dirty volcano… (unfortunately, even if Rinjani lies in a National Park, it is not cleaned properly and there is a lot of garbage, especially on the rim).

🌋⬆️We climbed +1500 m on the first day, spent the night on the rim at 2600m, climbed 1000m early in the morning to reach the summit and hiked back down. We therefore could admire both – sunrise and sunset with a fantastic view on the crater lake Segara Anak.

All in all, the trip made a nice warm-up for our main destination – Carstensz Pyramid… 🍀we had hoped access by helicopter 🚁to be available soon. By now it looks like Papua has been closed for tourism indefinitely and helicopter flights from Timika are currently not available.
